Bookmark Special: Joel Sequeira Business Development Manager, Netventures
Bookmark time again, and this week the spotlight is on the favourite bookmarks of Joel Sequeira, Business Development Manager, Netventures Communications India Pvt. Ltd. (NCIPL). Netventures was incorporated in Hong Kong in 1995, and currently maintains offices in Hong Kong, UAE, Bahrain, India, Canada, and associate offices in France and USA. NCIPL is the powerhouse of website development for the group, and is the creative force behind sites like Goa-Interactive (http://www.goa-interactive.com), NRIWorld (http://www.nriworld.com), Business Barons (http://www.business-leaders.com) and corporate sites of Qatar Airways (http://www.qatarairways.com), Goldiam (http://www.goldiam.com), and Kalpataru (http://www.kalpataru.com), to name a few.
Joel turns to CNN (http://www.cnn.com) for his quickest update on world news. He starts his day off with his dose from CNN and checks the headlines once again before he calls it a day. What better way for him to stay updated with most of his waking hours spent on the job ?
Another favourite is the Pacific Products website (http://www.pacprod.com), mainly for the nifty collection of ecards that can be created in 10 easy steps, for free. But there's more to the site than just free cards - there's a gallery of shops and ongoing auctions. The currently featured favourite products fall in the salt & pepper shaker category, with themes of people, sports, animals, music, Coke and even Disney! The auction page has an item up for auction, to which net users around the globe can bid for, given a start price. The current item is a sports impression figurine, for which the bidding started on April 13th, going on till 15th May. So if you have over US$400 to spare, go for it. They confirm your bids via email, and then post it online to egg others to bid higher.
The remaining favourite bookmarks all have something to do with web designing. Gabocorp Imaging (http://www.gabocorp.com) is one of the sites Joel is partial to, because of the design. The site is available in the Flash version and the plain vanilla HTML version. If you choose the HTML version, you're treated to a big helping of attitude basically explaining why you're wasting your time on the HTML version. Some sites just don't realise that Internet users are more interested in seeing sites the way they want to, and will not always take the extra effort to see it as the company would like them to. The company has a goal of creating websites that are not your everyday sites, but "a complete sensory experience from beginning to end. Intuitive interfacing, rich imaging, powerful audio, and solid technology." When we're concerned about being able to send an email message before being disconnected, fancy sites can take a backseat
HighFive (http://www.highfive.com), is a dynamic design online magazine with interviews, articles, news, and reviews of the best sites on the Web. The site basically exists to promote fine design and high style on the Web. If they keep up the pace, the site will soon become a useful reference area for building well designed websites.
Finally, Fila (http://www.fila.com) is a site that is built around sports shoes, but focuses on sports news, personalities etc., instead of making it a dull corporate site. The interesting thing about the Asian version of the site is that it is built by an advertising agency. A rather logical step, with clients asking their agencies to build websites for them. However, in India, you can count on your right hand, the number of ad. agencies in the website solution business. Not that there exists a scarcity of web design houses here
