If you've been on the Internet for some time, there's no doubt that you would have seen the Internet-renowned dancing baby. The dancing baby is a cute little animated figurine in nappies who performs a dance step to a beat that will keep you in splits of laughter. History has it that it was originally created as a demonstration for the animation company Kinetix, but the dancing baby today is one of the most famous downloads in history (well, Pamela Anderson was a threat till her latest bout of plastic surgery). But more importantly, this virtual dancing baby made its debut into the real world of television last week on Ally McBeal - a comedy on Star World about this one-in-a-million lawyer. And if you haven't seen the dancing baby till date, while there are hundreds of sites on the Net where you'd get them, try Kinetix's own Babycha page for dancing baby info - news updates, media appearances and how the cute chappie came to be animated! Of course, your dancing baby pilgrimage is not complete without a visit to the site that started the mania - Dancing Baby.Net
Right since my childhood, I've been a sucker for contests. Fill up this form, collect those soft-drink crowns, buy-this-get-that-free, send in a slogan and win The bad news was that it was time-consuming, but the good news was that I was not alone - there were thousands of others like me. And cashing in on this craze are two Indian Internet sites that cater to online audiences. First off the block, last year, was Contest2Win, followed a few months ago by Hungama. Both are built around a simple service - they tie up with different brands and companies to have exclusive contests online, as well as to put existing contests from the real world on their respective sites. I've still to win anything from them but you could try your hand at the free goodies at both these sites.
The Channel [V] website has a contest in association with Rayban which requires you to answer some brain-dead questions and win great prizes (maybe even a walk-on part in a Hollywood movie) if your slogan's good enough. The problem - you'll have to act quick, since it closes today!
Also ending today, is the Discover Hong Kong Quiz - all you have to do is collect 5 clues (from the site), enter the quiz and you could be the next winner of a 3 day, 2 night Free and Easy Hong Kong travel package for two including air travel and accommodation. Or consolation prizes of watches. Do you feel lucky today?
Satyam Online (the first private ISPs in India) is the online launch partner for Microsoft Office 2000. So if you're looking for a chance to win prizes from a car to computers and music systems (a total of 2000 prizes) log onto the Microsoft Productivity Contest and keep your fingers crossed.
To stay updated on contests for you online, sign up with Contest Watch below. FREE is a hot four-lettered word on the Internet!
