How do you keep yourself entertained after working on a computer for hours on end? The more traditional options would include taking a break and resting your eyes, or drooling at a screensaver of your favourite celebrity. But have you considered logging on to the Net instead to break that monotony?
Firstly, the sites we talk about today are all graphic-intensive sites, which means that you need to have a TCP/IP account to enjoy them. A shell account user will miss out on all the fun. Secondly, if you have a sound card on your machine too, you're in for the enhanced experience. So get set, ready and go
Log on first to the Hamster Dance site. What this site has for you is row after row of cute little hamsters (small animals that we keep hearing about in American media). And these cute lil chappies do a jig for you on the screen - be it walking, jumping or twisting. The sound file that accompanies the page sets the mood for the Hamster Dance experience which will leave you smiling.
If you thought that was interesting, you may want to try the Fishy Dance site where you find them swimming about, kissing each other and what have you. The third in the series of these dancing sites is the Cow Dance site. While this page originally had the cowdance upfront, the creator of the page recently had a baby (on May 13th), and has used this page to put up an animation of the famous dancing baby (it's big - 322 K, so you may not want to go here if you have a slow connection). Don't worry, the dancing cows are just a click away. And finally, for those who haven't had enough, there's Boogie Blocks that is not as interesting as the above sites, but may appeal to a some anyways.
More mayhem on the Net is just a mouse click away at the Scary Multiplying Bunny webpage. We know for a fact that rabbits are some of the fastest reproducing animals (maybe excluding Indians and Chinese), and this page shows you just how fast they can reproduce. While you start off with one blue bunny dancing about on the page, it is soon joined by a second and then a third then a fourth For those of you who don't have the patience or the connectivity to stay logged on to find out what finally happens, I'll be a nice guy and reveal what happens. After 101 bunnies populate your screen in about 10 minutes (depending on the speed of your connection), the page starts all over again with just one bunny and goes on and on and on and on just like the Energiser bunny in the ads. This page also has related zany pages like the Staring Contest, Meaning of Life, and X of the Day (not updated since October 98) - which just make you wish you had as much free time as the page creator!
The two pages that win hands down in my browser are the Hamster Dance and the Scary Multiplying Bunnies - both with a high cuteness and smile generating rating.
Of course, there are more interesting pictures for you to look at out there on the Internet. Like the thousands of webcam sites available covering almost everything and everyone under the sun. A webcam is a video camera that continually beams pictures every few seconds / minutes to a website for everyone on the Internet to see. So you have an AntCam that allows you to follow the going-ons in an ant colony, or an AshTrayCam that allows you to see what's smoking somewhere in Canada. Trust me, you'll find the weird and the bizarre without having to search. A very comprehensive directory listing of webcams available is on EarthCam which has a Yahoo! style directory listing and a search feature too. Log in and take a peek!
The World Cup 99 is on with full force these days and any Indian site worth its salt has a World Cup Special with great prizes to be won - prizes that range from a few rupees to a few lakh rupees. Log on and win big time!
